The 'Actions' instructions can save a great deal of time and keep a uniformity to your output.
1. Open a photo file and 'Save As' under a new name to protect your original.
2. Choose your 'Actions' palette. Click the 'Create new set' icon along the bottom of the palette and name it 'Add border' and click OK. Then click the 'Create new action' icon and click 'Record' to begin.

3. Go to Image>Canvas Size and select 'cm' as the unit in the width dropdown menu and type in 0.3 in the width and height box. Tick the 'Relative' checkbox. If your background colour is not white choose white as the Canvas extension colour. Click OK and then click the Stop playing/recording button on the Actions palette. You now have a custom action which you can use on other image files.
